Starting the Year off with Gratitude | Purcellville Photo Mom

Today kids across Loudoun County headed to school – a bit earlier than we’re used to.  That means their teachers had the shortest summer ever – having already been back to work for a week and a half.  A lot of hard work and planning goes into the start of an exciting and engaging year of learning.  My girls came out of their classroom this afternoon with huge smiles, stories and songs to share.  They had a fantastic first day of school.  So I took a moment this evening and sent a quick email thanking their teacher who I know has worked really hard to create this fantastic first impression for my little ones.

I want to encourage you to join me in starting the school year off with gratitude!  If your little one started school this week or last – consider sending a quick email thanking the teacher for all the work they’ve already done to prepare and plan for the year.  Mention something specific that your child enjoyed or shared with you.  In just 3 to 5 minutes you can make someone smile and know they are appreciated.

I don’t have children in school…one is in heaven and the other is married for 5 years and expecting her first baby…but I did homeschool them through highschool graduation…before that I taught elemntary and Jr. High school for many years and know how hard the teachers work…
Your idea is wonderful and the whole post was great, I just love what you said here: “In just 3 to 5 minutes you can make someone smile and know they are appreciated.”
Have you ever read “The Blessing” http://www.amazon.com/Blessing-Giving-Gift-Unconditional-Acceptance/dp/0849946379/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1314702735&sr=1-2
A must read for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and anyone who works with children or people in general…really ~

Thank you Susan! I haven’t read The Blessing but your comment is the second reference to that book I’ve seen just today – perhaps that is a sign that I should read it! 🙂 Thanks for the recommendation!
