{"id":5827,"date":"2014-08-08T12:55:58","date_gmt":"2014-08-08T16:55:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/catinaanderson.com\/photography\/?p=5827"},"modified":"2014-08-08T18:31:10","modified_gmt":"2014-08-08T22:31:10","slug":"in-the-garden-a-new-category","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/catinaanderson.com\/photography\/in-the-garden-a-new-category\/","title":{"rendered":"Honeybee!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my favorite places for photography is the garden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>But, anyone that&#8217;s visited my home knows that our gardens are far from beautiful.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>They are overwhelming and filled with weeds. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Every year we face the problem of not knowing what to pull because we don&#8217;t know if we have a weed or a flower.<\/p>\n<p>Since we know virtually nothing about gardening or plants or flowers, it&#8217;s a constant state of discovery.<\/p>\n<p>As a former biology major I find it interesting. \u00a0As a photographer it&#8217;s one of my favorite places to explore. \u00a0I love to get up close and see what insects and flowers I can find amidst the jumbled mess.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>(which I hope one day will not be a jumbled mess!)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite photography subjects are insects. \u00a0This summer I&#8217;d read about the plight of the honeybee. \u00a0Then I realized that I literally hadn&#8217;t seen one in our yard all summer.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously\u2026 the whole summer.<\/p>\n<p>And our lawn is basically a field of clover.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d seen bumblebees and wasps. \u00a0But nothing small.<\/p>\n<p>Until today.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5828\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/catinaanderson.com\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IMG_0296T.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"http:\/\/catinaanderson.com\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IMG_0296T.jpg 600w, http:\/\/catinaanderson.com\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IMG_0296T-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a small yellow bee I photographed today with my 70-200 (so it&#8217;s cropped in WAY, WAY far). \u00a0I googled and believe it&#8217;s a honeybee. \u00a0I know I have friends out there who are bee experts so I&#8217;d love to learn more!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5829\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/catinaanderson.com\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IMG_0297T.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\" srcset=\"http:\/\/catinaanderson.com\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IMG_0297T.jpg 600w, http:\/\/catinaanderson.com\/photography\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IMG_0297T-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Why did I not see them in my yard until now? \u00a0Is that unusual? \u00a0And can anyone add anything to my identification?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m relieved to see we haven&#8217;t lost this important pollinator. \u00a0And now I&#8217;d like to see how close I could get with a macro lens without threatening it.<\/p>\n<p>If you know something about this bee please let me know in the comments or link to a favorite web resource.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my favorite places for photography is the garden.
