Houston… We HAVE a Problem!

And it would be…

THIS is what we woke up to today.

In case you haven’t been following… I posted about our friendly front-yard spider (aka the garden spider) here and here.

We knew it was bound to happen eventually… here’s a closer look.

So – I did a little googling.  Found out that there egg sac could be holding between 400 and 14oo spider eggs which will hatch this fall but the spiderlings won’t emerge until the spring.  I’m thinking given how close they are to our front door we’re going to have to do some thinking on this one… it would be super cool to watch this process though… hm…

I’d leave it. I can’t wait to see your pictures come spring! I don’t like spiders IN my house. They die a very early death when I see them. But outside, I think they’re wonderfully fascinating. And since those are garden spiders, I don’t think you’d get them in the house. I have a ton of garden spiders in my yard, and I have NEVER seen one in the house. I have too many crickets, camelback crickets (HATE those buggers!), and dead rolli-pollis. No garden spiders. Hope you keep it around. 🙂

So… not sure yet. Would be so cool to watch it emerge… BUT… it’s super duper close to our front walk and spiders build webs across the walk in the dark which plague us. We’re lucky this one built it’s web near the house instead of across the walk but I can’t walk into my house at night without running into a web of some other spider… so I can’t imagine 400 – 1400 of these little guys looking for a place to spin… hmmm… I think I need to do some more reading about the habits of this type of spider!

I am sorry to say it but that thing would be gone if it was at my house! Spiders creep me out.
